"Classroom Assessment Program"

What is this program about?

This eLearningTeacher program focuses on Classroom Assessment and is a comprehensive tutorial on the subject of testing and assessment topics. This program includes approximately 20 hours of learning activities that will teach you the principles, concepts, and terminology used in classroom assessment by referencing everyday classroom scenarios. This program was designed to help Passport to TeachingSM candidates in their preparation for the Professional Teaching Knowledge exam administered by the American Board for the Certification of Teacher Excellence.

Beginning and experienced teachers will find the program useful as a resource to support data-driven instruction and assessment strategies to meet NCLB and school reform initiatives.

Learning Layouts

The program includes five LearningLayouts™ that are delivered online at your own pace within a 90-day period. The LearningLayouts™ include:

  1. Getting Started: Includes a program introduction, description, schedule, and self-assessment to identify perceived areas of competence and areas of need for additional study.
  2. Understanding Test Concepts: Includes the purpose and use of educational tests, purposes and uses of different test item types, application of general testing concepts, and use of general statistical concepts.
  3. Monitoring Student Progress Closely: Includes aligning curriculum, instruction, and assessment; checking student progress; and developing a standards-based lesson and assessment.
  4. Helping High-Needs Students: Includes planning to accommodate student special needs, teaching to support special needs, and identifying professional services to support student special needs.
  5. Tying It All Together: Includes a process for connecting the results of all LearningLayouts, identifying your best works within the program, building an action plan, printing My Portfolio, and providing feedback on the quality of the program.
What do teachers learn to do? By the end of this eLearningTeacher Program, participants will:
  1. Understand the purpose and applications of different educational tests (e.g., norm and criterion referenced tests);
  2. Understand the purposes and uses of different test item types (e.g., selected and constructed response formats);
  3. Understand the application of general testing concepts in classroom teaching;
  4. Understand the application of general statistical concepts in testing and assessment;
  5. Understand the process for aligning curriculum, instruction, and assessment to improve teaching and student achievement;
  6. Understand the process of monitoring student progress to improve teaching and student achievement;
  7. Identify the most important components of an Individualized Education Program (IEP) and several accommodations and strategies that may be used to implement an IEP for students with disabilities;
  8. Identify several instructional strategies and practices for students with special needs and be able to choose appropriate strategies and practices for different situations; and
  9. Identify school-based professionals and relate their services to meet the unique needs of students with disabilities.
How does this program work? Participants in this eLearningTeacher.com Program will study online to:
  1. Complete five online learning experiences known as LearningLayouts™;
  2. Complete a self-assessment of perceived competence in the area of classroom assessment;
  3. Take pre-assessments and post-assessments with feedback to measure progress throughout each LearningLayout;
  4. Use the eLearningTeacher interactive glossary to learn and apply terminology;
  5. Acquire knowledge of key topics through eLearningTeacher tutorials comprised of text, graphics, video, and web site links;
  6. Use email to network and share activities with other colleagues or mentors;
  7. Organize the results of online assessments and learning activities in a password-protected online portfolio known as My Portfolio;
  8. Apply and practice assessment concepts in standards-based lessons using TaskBuilderOnline;
  9. Practice KAIZEN -- the process of continuous improvement.
